Wire & Cable Industry was created by Archived Forum Admin
Hi,
I am a first year MBA student and UCLA Anderson School of Management, Los Angeles. Before joining MBA I was involved with wire & cable industry in India. Now I am doing a study on cable manufacturing industry in US and want to learn more about the same. Can anyone suggest me some sources from where I can get more information on technical and manufacturing aspects of cable manufacturing industry? I would greatly appreciate any help in this regard.
Thanks,
Vikas Gupta

Hello Vikas,
A good start would be to join The Wire Association International, Inc.
Kindest regards,

Hello again Vikas,
Sorry Vikas but I did look in the WAI 2004 Reference Guide and you are not shown in there as a member so I guess you joined after that particular guide was published. Plus of course you are a university student and most students do not belong to manufacturing associations such as this.
As far as manufacturing aspects go, you might want to look at the following web sites:
Insulated Cable Engineers Association, Inc. (ICEA)
www.icea.net/
International Wire & Cable Symposium, Inc. (IWCS)
www.iwcs.org/
Electric Power Research institute (EPRI)
www.epri.com/
and see who the cable sponsors are and then review their web sites for appropriate data such as annual reports etc.
As far as technical aspects go, you might want to look at the web sites above, plus the technical sessions (presentations) to be made at Interwire in Atlanta on May 14 to 19, 2005.
www.wirenet.org/events/interwire/Tech_sessions.htm
You may also want to see if you can get a free subscription to Wire & Cable Technology International magazine.
www.wiretech.com/index.html
Finally Stewart-hay Associates has a pretty good list of links to worldwide wire and cable manufacturers (more than 600). You may want to review that as well.
Kindest regards,
Peter Stewart-Hay
