Does any one know why the tooling for nylon (tubing) should be 12:1. In other words, the tip(guider) should be 3.46 times the wire OD (3.46 = the square root of 12). If we running a wire 0.300" then the tip OD should be 1.040".

The relationship between tip and die and final product dimensions involves the DDR (Draw Down Ratio) and the DRB (Draw Ratio Balance). These numbers will be different for different resins and different processing conditions. A simple calculator is located at www.bhtool.com/calculator.htm

You would be advised to discuss directly with both the resin supplier and the tooling and/or crosshead manufacturer to get the proper Balance and Ratio numbers for your particular resin. Experience will provide you with a proper range of tooling sizes that you can live with for any particular product.
