Nail Wire

Hi all wiremakers,

We make nail wires for a customer who is having issues when making the points, with the fins still on the point. We have tried a higher carbon rod to get the wire more brittle, but this has not worked out. Are there any options for me to look at, to get this corrected. They require a re wire that is in tensile spec but brittle enough for the fins to come off the points when the shears on their machine is making the points.

Frequently the problem is resolved by the design of the customer's tools.

Alternatives from wire drawing are:

1.-Try to reduce the number of passes to higher reductions of area per pass.

2.-If the specified tensile allows you to go to a higher tensile, this can help.

3.-If you can have rods with a higher sulfur content than normal, this can also help.

If possible make a revision on the profile of the tools used by the customer, which again, normally is the cause of the problem.

hi,
We are into manufactruing of nails and wire also. While making point of nails the fins cannot be prevented. however while barreling the nails these fins get cleaned.
