Discoloration

I am trying to anneal a copper-zinc alloy with a 7% zinc and 93% copper in a nitrogen-hydrogen environment. The problem is that the color of my wire changes from red to yellow.

Please suggest at what temp should I use nitrogen and to what extent should I anneal it.

Hello anil,

This is considered a bronze alloy and I don't have an answer for you but I do know where two spots where you may be able to get a proper answer.

The first is the Copper Development Association Inc. at www.copper.org/
Go to "Resources" / "Questions?". Fill out the form and state your question there.

The second is EBNER Industrieofenbau (Austrian) at www.ebnerfurnaces.com/
I suggest you contact the Manager of the Service Department, Hermann Fleischanderl at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Please let us know how you make out.
