His name is Richard, Tuber and you have his telephone number. You are indeed quite fortunate to find someone in the wire and cable industry who understands your particular tubing product and manufacturing process. This is after all a wire and cable technology web site.

Now that it seems the discussion is going commercial I suggest the Forums is not the web site for future commercial discussions. Thank you.

We will wait a couple of days and then lock this thread because it seems to have nothing to do with the wire and cable industry.

Sincerely,

In the event that there was concern that we were getting away from wire industry and into medical industry. The tubing is made using a single strand conductor. Tubing is made with many different ID's which means that the tubing manufacture has to either draw the wire to size or purchase it from a bare wire drawing company. Tubing can have multiple lumens or passages and they don't have to be round. When not round it takes really specially processed conductor.

The manufacturing process of coating the wire is making magnet wire with a "process twist" which allows the conductor to be removed, leaving a tube.

Some medical tubing has an embedded wire that is stainless and 38 to 44 AWG, again a bare wire product that can be challenging to make but someone has to make it.

Additionally stainless wire is braided around the tubing, again requiring both drawing for the fine stainless used to make the braid and something like a Wardwell braider is used to braid over the coated conductor.

So while it has medical applications, it is very much a wire process. It is the end use that is very unwire like.

Thanks for the additional information Richard.

I noted that 38 AWG has a diameter of 0.100716mm and 44 AWG a diameter of 0.050231 mm

Funny thing is that I bumped into a company the other day from Canton, Ohio, HM Wire International, Inc., ( www.hmwire.com/ ) that manufacturers and sells ultra fine stainless steel wire in sizes from 38 AWG to 52.5 AWG (0.018749mm)

Richard & Peter,

Richard seems to know his stuff. Today's medical grade tubing, or a good chunk of it anyway, is directly drived from the wire coating industry. That is precisely why I came to this site. My initial issue, coating polyimide over a braided substrate, still remains unresolved, but I'll call Richard on the side in regards to that. I'll also be watching this site closely for other wire coating topics that peak my interest.

I ask Peter to use caution before shutting people off too quickly. If you look back on our posts, the discussion is very wire related.

BTW - Roger is a good friend and my CEO, but no relation. My name is Tim.
