Thank you... do you know the difference between using these dies or the solid ones? Are there quality differences between one and another?

The biggest difference is your application. The split dies have been around a long time and work great. If you have very high wire speeds you will probably need a solid die.

Initially they (the split dies) were called "dog house dies" which may not be a meaningful term to Rcelaya. Max Bettner is 3rd generation in the die business. His father Howard and grand father invented the product. You cannot find better people to work with anywhere.

The split dog house die evolved into a dome die which basically looks like a bullet that was added to the top of a dog house die. It is also a split die so you can open it. When you open it you will see that it is machined in the wire slot and it looks quite a bit like a drawing die profile. Some of these dies had pins so that the groove would stay aligned.

The cathedral die started out as a tall dog house die, then it got a dome and even a hardened steel dome which increases die life.
As enameling systems became faster a problem developed. The hydraulic pressure because so high that it would cause the die to open. Some dome dies were made that included a snap ring which went around the dome preventing the die from opening when you least wanted it to open.
Solid dies were invented to prevent dies from opening and weeping or allowing excess enamel onto the wire.

Thank you very much again Spectre, you input is always valuable and very much appreciated.

Rcelaya, please go to the Bettner Wire Coating Dies Inc. web page www.bettner.com/products.htm to see the various styles of coating dies.

The "Dog House" dies are those that look like little dog houses. Later they became the "Tall Dog House" dies or "Cathedral" dies.

Now with what you know and as Spectre put it, contact Bettner Wire Coating Dies Inc.and work directly with them. www.bettner.com
